- medication, which can disturb your sleep-wake cycle
- physical conditions, such as chronic pain and restless leg syndrome
- caffeine, especially when consumed late in the day
- environmental factors, such as loud noises or an uncomfortable bed
If your sleepless nights are caused by external conditions, the odds are that CBD may help with your insomnia. Research would suggest that CBD can treat anxiety, which is another very common factor in restlessness. A 2018 review in Frontiers in Pharmacology noted that there’s a fair amount of evidence to support the claim that CBD soothes pain. Authors in both studies note that by reducing chronic pain or anxiety, CBD can improve sleep.
How CBD Works to Improve Sleep
While there have been numerous studies on CBD and its effects on sleep and insomnia, there has yet to been a study to pinpoint exactly why CBD appears to helps with sleep so well. Although, we do have our opinions.
We can tell you from personally experimenting with isolated cannabinoids and CBD extracts in general that broad spectrum CBD and full spectrum CBD products have a stronger sedative effective than isolated CBD products. We’ve also found the combinations of CBN of legal amounts of THC in full spectrum products provide that “kick” you would be looking for to get better sleep.
