What is CBD Oil?
CBD or cannabidiol, is one of over two hundred plant-based nutrients found in the cannabis hemp plant. CBD, as a singular compound, is a non-psychoactive substance – meaning it doesn’t cause the mind-altering ‘high’ that is usually associated with marijuana and THC oils. While many full spectrum cbd oils contain trace and legal amounts of THC (not near enough to cause a higher), many companies produce a pure cbd oil containing no THC for those looking to avoid the psychoactive compound completely!
Unlike CBD oils and other hemp based products, marijuana contains a lot more THC, which is the psychoactive component in cannabis flower and other cannabis products. The legality of CBD oil depends on the ratio of CBD to THC in the oil. Since the pass of the 2018 Farm Bill, CBD oil containing less than 0.3% THC is completely legal to use to aid with pain, sleep, anxiety, obesity, inflammation and more.
How does CBD oil for pain relief work?
With the currant opioid crisis at hand, many people are turning to CBD as their pain relief of choice to avoid any risks of addiction to powerful pharmaceutical substances.
But exactly how does CBD work? Luckily, it is not a mystery! Full-spectrum CBD oil contains a wide range of cannabinoids and Terpenes that each have their own specific medicinal effect when ingested or consumed, some of these effects overlap a bit, meaning some cannabinoids and Terpenes can achieve similar things and even can “boost” each other. That said, when all these components work together, they typically create a positive synergistic effect in the body, some refer to this as the entourage effect.
CBD and the ECS (Endocannabinoid System)
It is generally understood that humans and animals have an endocannabinoid system mainly localized in the brain, gut and skin. When humans and animals are healthy, then they produce their own cannabinoids but when diets are poor and sleep habits and self-care are lacking and the system gets out of balance then an endocannabinoid deficiency syndrome, also known as Clinical Endocannabinoid Deficiency (CED) can occur. Some people are genetically susceptible to this happening. Genetic testing is now available to assess for this. It is possible that this could explain why some people derive a greater effect from CBD than others. Some studies suggest that Fibromyalgia may be in part an endocannabinoid deficiency syndrome.
How to Use CBD for Pain Relief
Knowing how to use CBD for pain relief can definitely be confusing if you have never used it before. Usually, your best bet is to follow the manufacturers directions on the label of the product, they should know what is in the product and how it works better than anybody. With this said, most of the products available are made with things you are already familiar with! So it’s always great to know what a good dose is! While the makers of Epidiolex and research suggests that 300mg of CBD is a proper dose for average size and weigh, that is in regards to instant effects for siezing individuals. Truthfully you can easily get away with 10x less than that! A good and solid dose, when cbd is used daily would be most effective between 10-50mg for non-cannabis users and usually around 100mg or more for cannabis users! So with this in mind, follow the directions and of course, go by feeling! Dial your doses up and down based on your own need always.
